RE-INFLECTION explores the psychogeographic narratives of urban and suburban spaces. The exhibition combines the imaginative lense of Mateus Brandão’s photography with the linear sculptural style of Thomas Sandberg. The lines of each sculpture intervene in the image-making process, taking mundane, familiar spaces and fragmenting them, while also connecting them together in new ways.
Sculptures displayed on beds of reflective water encourage visitors to take their own photos and reinterpret the gallery space through the same process, becoming active participants in reimagining the landscapes around them. The presence of the sculpture pieces in the centre of the room is in turn disrupted by the photographic works displayed on the walls, where they become inverted, disjointed and re-understood by the framing of the photography.
RE-INFLECTION is open at gaffa's Gallery 1 from May 13th to May 24th.
